Has anyone got any opinions on this make/model?

We are looking to buy a car as a replacement for my husbands car and it would be good if it could tow our van ( we currently tow with a renalt scenic 1.8)

Hi there, i used to tow with a 52 plate CRV 2.0ivtec petrol and found it to be pretty lacking in guts when it came to towing up inclines, i tow an Eccles Amethyst and although not a lightweight van it isn't exactly off the scale, I also found that the rear end used to drop considerably when hitched up ( pretty sure it wasn't bad packing on my part ) Used to have to change down to fourth gear when going uphill.

I was going to change to the 2.2 diesel when it first came out but the towing capabilities where the same, so there was no real point.

Now i drive the Kia Sorento and am more than chuffed with it, great pulling power with the added bonus of self levelling suspension so van always sits nice and level.

Hope this helps a wee bit.

Bryan

Hi Bryan i am not suprised you were struggling with the CRV , at a Mtplm of 1467Kg your amethyst was towing at 100% capacity for the car , the Sorrento should pull it with ease

Lilmiss i would say towing up to 1200kg with a petrol Crv you should be comfortable

We have a new shape diesel CRV and tow 1400Kg with a noseweight of 90Kg. (Max nosewight allowed = 100Kg). Only two of us in the car and we have been from Kent to Cumbria and back and got 31 mph to the gallon. On motorways, we were in 6th gear for 90% of the time, cruise control set at 57-57 mph giving 1,900 rpm. Beautifully stable, effortless although you have to work the gears in traffic. Had some initial and very annoying and initially worrying hiccups with the car, there are problems with the design of the shock absorbers but all is sorted now. Wind noise can be intrusive but there are notified modifications which have helped. We are CRV devotees, its our fifth CRV and for reliability they are excellent and knock the opposition out of sight.  A slightly hard ride, and apparently you have to keep a regular eye on the oil levels. Hubby test drove the Sorrento and hated it. We're very happy bunnies and have not regretted our choice.

Thanks for these opinions, all very useful.

My OH has seen a good model at a price we can afford. low milage and bodywork in good nick and its been checked over by a trusted, experienced mechanic friend who said that if it was his money he would willingly spend it. I think he will buy it now even if I dont like it. I think he's in love!
