Hi Gina,

When I tow my small trailer I can honestly say I don't know it's behind me as I can't actually see it nor feel it and it has no effect on the performance of the car whatsoever, and I wondered if people actually tow caravans with so little effect. As I've said I am permanently aware of the van due to its movements and really wanted to know if this was ok and, according to the many replies, I think I can start to feel a little easier about it knowing that pretty much everyone experiences the same thing.

Hi David

Our old caravan (Bailey Ranger) always behaved brilliantly, no snaking, or movement except in exeptionally strong winds. Empty or full it towed great.

Our new Sterling was awful on our first trip, so much so I thought the stabiliser was faulty. Our towcar (Jeep) is heavy enough to pull most caravans, and comes out at a 67% match for the Sterling (well within the 85%).

I've since had an experiment with nose weight and loading, and find it quite critical. It is most stable with 75-80Kg, and starts to become unstable if the noseweight drops below 65Kg.

I find that increasing the noseweight by packing forward of the axle helps, and don't load anything rear of the door.

Have an experiment, and do a couple of short runs, its just trail and error.

HTH

Paul

Nothing loaded behind the door ? bit tricky if the door happens to be at the front.
