Twice now my garmin i3 sat nav has sent me down the most caravan unfriendly roads when there was no need. Does any one now a sat nav that can take into account towing caravans.
The answer is no. You can use truck settings but this only affects estimated time of arrival etc. not route planning. I think the companies that provide the mapping are working on this.
I have a Tom Tom but check the route carefully with a map to make sure there are no unsuitable roads planned.
It's unbelievable that none of the sat nav units have a "large vehicle" or "towing" setting which will avoid minor roads, but this does seem to be the case at the moment.
The only thing you can do if yours allows it is to set it to main roads rather than local routes. We have prymenav on one of ours and we can do this on it. That way it should pick A and B roads and not unclassifieds.
Can't agree with Dan, as I can read a map but the sat nav makes travelling so much more relaxed. We tend to check the route against the map to ensure the roads are okay, then once we set off we can relax. Of course where the sat nav really comes into it's own is if you have to detour and that can be when the biggest problems can occur.
I can read a map and luckily with very little effort find my way to most places in the UK having spent thousands of miles sat in a recovery truck with an ex.
But I do find the sat nav useful on occasions, finding clients in remote places for instance.
wives ace you want to try mother's navigating especially ones that have no sense of direction and cant read maps. Good job I can read a map and there is things called layby's
note to scottish mob, dont drop me in the brownstuff..thanks
too late Alan just sent you mum an e-mail lol.
My wife is one of the best map readers I know, yet I still have sweetie ( tomtom 910)
I have often been driving somewhere and deliberately ignore her direction just to see how quick she brings me back on route I.e bugger the motorway let me go the scenic route.
I often expect her to say "If you don't want my instructions, please turn me off."
als you cheeky so and so :-) good job she isnt on e-mail or on here. she only reads on here if there is something I want to show her. plus she knows she is a pants navigator and isnt afraid to admit it LOL
