Guys,

Just looking to purchase Sprite Major 6, will be using Mondeo 2.0 130bhp to pull it.

What TowCar comes out at around 93%  and 4.5 Stars.

What you think be ok?

Thakns in advance

I tow a 1450kg Hymer Nova 470 with my Mondeo 11TDCi LX and it does a superb job of it. Absolutely stable in all conditions that I have been out in so far, and it returns 35mpg at a steady 55mph. On the motorway I set the cruise at 55 mph and forget it, it goes up hill and down dale in 5th gear with no intervention from me, and that includes setting off from home at j21 0n the M62 and going east over to Huddersfield which takes us up to the highest point on the motorway network in England, it did just the same going up to beattock summit on the m74 in Scotland. You will have no problems with it as a towcar and as a car in general use it is equally good. I get 45 mpg tootling about town and 55+mpg on longer trips on the motorway.

Hi,

I agree 100% with Bill, it will tow a treat, you will be amazed how well the Mondeo pulls the van.

The only downside is that the clutch does tend to run hot and smell if lots of manouevering is done getting onto a pitch. We bought a motor mover and use it in tight spots.

regards

I have never had a problem with a smelling clutch from it, it is much easier with the diesel than with the old petrol cars that i had before. The car performs so well on low revs that I have never been tempted to re it whilst reversing and manoevering. I always reveerse my caravan onto it's pitch, if I can not get it on by pushing it with the car I will go soemwhere else. When I get home I have to take it down into the cul de sac and turn around before reversing the caravan at 90 degrees into my front garden. It has been a pleasant change from all the extra revs and smelling clutches I used to get from the old Volvo and the old Rover which were my previous towcars over the last 15 years.

I used to tow with a c-max 1.8 petrol and the clutch smelled awful even solo if you were in traffic now have a 2.0ltr auto and it is brilliant.

Having read vkd21's message I realise that I should have made clear that my Mondeo 115 tdci has only got a 5 speed box, so all my motorway towing is done in top (5th ) gear.

Thanks for the response's.  Uptill August I was towing my ""old""  1150mtplm(pick new one up on Saturday :-) )  with a 1.7TD Astra, it pulled but was a struggle.  I brought a new mondeo in August and pulled van 300 miles to Cornwall it was a dream.

Just upgraded to the Sprite so really hoping the Mondeo is just as good.

I agree with bill, I pull a sprite major, goes very well. But be gentle with the clutch, if they go it will be up to £800 for replacement.
