Thinking of fitting an external 13amp socket to the van during the winter months, can anyone give me any advice on this please, can i just take a feed from an existing socket.

Thanks

In that case you should get someone else to do it!

You will need to cut a hole in the wall of the van if you want one actually on the outside,  so if you are still under warranty you need to consider that.

Some people fit them to the underneath of the floor, others in an outside locker. I think the new vans have them in the so called "wet locker".  You could also take a trailing socket out through the front locker as there will be holes in the floor there.

We just take a wire out of a window if we need power outside, but OH has fitted extra sockets inside and it is easy if you know what you are doing.

If you are at all unsure please do consult an electrician or a caravan dealer.

We have an outside socket, and wouldn't be without one.

My beer fridge sits nicely in the awning or under the canopy chilling my beer so nicely.

You can buy a complete outside socket with a spring loaded flap on it.

That may look good on the outside of the house, but not sure of screwing one of those to the outside of the caravan.  Our last van had one fitted in the wet locker and I ran an extension into the awning.  Our current van has a fold out flap with a socket, which is inside the awning/porch.  Both were practical and very useful.

I wouldn't fit a 13 Amp socket, my 1st choice would be a 16 Amp just like the plug that your van already has.

These are already "IP rated" (both the plugs and sockets unlike the 13 Amp) for outdoor use and have a far better connection that the internal domestic 13 Amp standard.

When it comes to connecting any appliance remember to consider the protection and ensure that an RCD is present in the circuit

Is there such a thing as a mains splitter so thta you can power the caravan and an auxilliary cable to a set of covered plugs (such as those for tents)?
