I recently enquired at my Ford main dealer the price etc of the new 140psi Mondeo.He came up with a list price of £19995.00 and offered a "special "discount of £1000.00 and £6000.00 for mine.Upon informing him that the list price was £18539.00 and that Ford were offering a direct manufacturers discount of £1000 he said he had made a mistake and quoted me for an Estate. I asked him to show me a list price as I couldnt find an estate car on the Ford web site tthat was listed at £19995.00p.

I went elsewhere and was quoted £16350 for the Mondeo 140psi and £7800.00for mine . A difference of almost £4500. Do they think we are all stupid.Golden Rule.-Do you homework 

That is a massive difference, I would have been pretty disgusted with his dishonesty too.

It is not being dishonest it's commerce, but not smart business - just remember buyer beware. All purchases are negotiable, but this was excessive 'room to manoeuvre'. Most main dealers have their head in the sands - you have to present online prices to them and then walk away.

I would personally say that over inflating the list price is dishonest, I know that some dealers won't knock off much and offer poor trade ins but to actually overstate Ford's own price is criminal.

So 'Beware the main dealers' because one saleman hasn't got a clue?

Obviously shop around as you can always undercut main dealer prices....but you knew that, didn't you?

Try the car supermarkets or the on line dealers, I think the Caravan and camping Club advertise one.

I bought my Renault from Motorhouse at Cannock, very good deal and a fair trade in. Second hand ones are more at our local dealer than I paid last year!!!

It is full UK spec apart from no alarm, they fitted a higher spec one.

Only 2 year warranty -standard in France-but I bought an extra year. Its an import! (Are'nt they all?)

Sourced straight from a dealer in France I think.

May be looking at changing over to a new (almost new) mpndeo stationwagon in the near future so would be interested in where you made your saving. Went to the local Ford agent the other day and they want almost £20,000 for a nearly new Ford Direct ghia with sport pack. Seemed just a little on the dear side to me. Not sure if he was rtying to get me to buy the 18 month old mk11 titanium X for £13,000.

Will be up in Oldham this weekend so if its your way on we may have a look. Cheers.
