Ask truck drivers how they learned to reverse articulated trucks and the vast majority will tell you they are self-taught(like myself). At first it seems you'll never get the hang of it but eventually you will do. The best place to practice would be a motorway services truck parking area on a Sunday morning when there's very little traffic about.

I used to be able to reverse no problem, but since I got my new car I can't get used to the c**p turning circle. Worse than an oil tanker. After having it 1 1/2 years I still misjudge reversing into my driveway which I do every day.(solo).

The advice I got off the site seems to have done the trick.I look in the mirror and turn the wheel the way I want the Back of the van to go. Have fitted a fork lift truck type steering knob bottom centre which helps too..

Best advice I can offer is get a toy car and caravan and practice with that. The newer ones are not nearly as good as the old matchbox ones I had as a kid though because they won't turn sharply enough. You could use a toy articulated lorry though the physics are the same.

I went on a Caravan Club course - it was fantastic - loads of practical experience, as well as all the theory.   I would definitely recommend it. There were all sorts from total novices to people who had been towing for a while but could never reverse!   We all had great fun too.

You get a big thick course handbook too, which is very useful.   Also, the CC do a DVD called "Towing the line" which is good too.

One of the best tips I have is that if it all goes wrong, pull forward a little bit with the opposite lock on the car, then your reverse will be much easier.
