Currently looking at small 4x4 suv's myself.
All the reviews say if you are interested in the Vauxhall go for the Chevrolet Captiva! It's the same car made in the same factory in Korea (both GM brands) but model for model the Chevy is about £2k cheaper (so what price badge snobbery?).
The Chevrolet is also offered with a 7 seat 3rd row option which the Vauxhall isn't, if its the 2 litre diesel option is the one you are interested in both models are only 5 speeders, an important consideration! Finally the available boot capacity is way down compared to virtually every other similar sized competitive 4x4 model.
But if this is the road you really want to go down you must check out the new Jeep Patriot - £19000 for the fully loaded Limited model (heated leather seats etc) or £17000 for the Sport model.
Incidentally the December issue ofthe 4x4 Driver magazine has just named it as the winner of their best new 4x4 of 2007 !

ps the Jeep also has the 2.0 litre VW diesel engine (6sp) and in real world conditions returns over 40+ mpg according to all the reviews I have read !
