Had a look at E-bay, there's a 1992 and a 1995, both quoting 1400kg max laden weight.
We have a 1991 ABI Award Tristar, 4 berth, very similar internal fittings as the Nightstar, just slightly shorter, and it's MLW is 1240kg, so 1400kg sounds spot on.
So you would need a car with a kerbweight in the region og 1650kg for the 85% match. Unfortunately, I think the heaviest a 1.8 mondeo gets is about 1500kg. You would also need something like 120bhp+ for comfortable motoring.
