We are just about to buy a caravan and I know a stabilizer is a good idea, I will be towing a 5 berth van off of a Renault Espace.

With an Alko stabilizer, does this replace the hitch of the van? - do I need to get the correct tow ball, or will any one do?

Any help is much appreciated as this is all very new to me.

The AlKo does replace the existing tow hitch on the van. Unless you have a swan neck style towball on the car you will need to invest in an AlKo fixed towball. They have a slightly longer neck that allows for the stabilising action to work sucessfully. One tip if you buy the towball and that is to make sure all the protective paint is removed from the actual ball befoe use otherwise it will effect the pads in the AlKo.

When you go to have a towbar fixed specify that you need an Alko Ball. You should also get a plastic cover for the ball to ensure it does not rust or get dirt on it. Remember also that before you hitch up - give the ball a good wipe over with a clean cloth.
