just trying to decide whether to opt for a Sorento or a the new VW Tiguan.
We know the sorento is tried and tested for towing and comes out top notch, but has anyone towed with the new VW yet? Apparently it has a max tow weight of 2500kg!

any comments or advice would be grateful
It's only the manual Escape that can tow 2500 Kgs.
What will you be towing? Personally I would not want to tow more than the kerbweight of the vehicle. Unless you have a van under 1500kgs it seems to be a one horse race!

Not necessarily David. I for one do not accept any of VW's kerbweights. As an example, my Touran is listed as 1592 Kgs., whereas, on two different weighbridges it's actually 1725 Kgs., and I've had a good look at the Tiguan, and I am convinced that it's heavier than the Touran.
I was invited to the veiwing at our local VW dealer and although a very nice vehicle I did tell the salesman I had doubts about the towing capabilities.
I parked not far from a demonstrator and when veiwed side by side my Santa Fe is much bigger and therfore in my opinion far more stable.
Don't think I would like to stick my Twin Axle on the back of a Tiguan (it would look frightening).
Forget towing limits, unless you want to join the hooligan-element amongst caravanners!
When the police stop you and check your outfit's weight, they'll not be interested in some obscure weighbridge read-out. If you're over the documented weights they'll 'do' you, and rightly so!!

Quite right David - but "they" wont be interested in the car's Kerbweight.
Can't understand why you suggest forgetting about towing limits though- well, "unless you want to join the hooligan-element amongst caravanners"!
