Hi Friends

anybody tried or bought the HID lighting. is it as good as they all proclaim it to be.

it is alot brighter my laguna has the gas version of this and when its dark the lights show alot more than standard bulbs i think id put a conversion kit in any car i have in the future

If you do fit HID lights you will have to remove them for the M.O.T . as it will fail due to it not having auto self leveler........ A self leveler keeps the head lights in the right position no matter what position the car is in , so it dont dazzel on comming traffic.

There are many different HID types to fit from cheap bulb type only to full conversions costing many hundreds of pounds.
Some systems interfere with the car engine management on start up, some conform to relevant safety standards and some do not. As robroy said some types will not pass the mot unless self levelling suspension is used.
You would be wise to read a lot on the subject and work out if it is worth it.
A lot of roads are well lit and if you don't often drive at night is it really money well spent. Will it add value to your car or devalue it. Will it void your insurance as well due to it no longer being standard?

A while back I went to my local Car spares shop and asked for these extra bright bulbs. I struggle with night blindness and thought these would be great. Thank god I know the owner personally because I could have cost myself a lot of money. He wouldnt sell them to me because I have a Audi and these bulbs would have burned the headlamp lens. So be very careful.

I quite agree with the last two posts, I also looked at fitting some to my old towcar but after going through it all I choose no to for those reasons.

There is also a lot of cheap imports so beware, you can always just uprate your headlight bulbs which does make a difference and does not cost a great deal.

Surely if you don't often drive at night, then it would be a "waste" of money

I think to get the full benefit, you will need the full conversion kits, but they don't come cheap. I personally would spend my money on something else, but then I don't drive much at night.

also if it is the gas bulbs that come with a kit they can be very dear as our renault has them as standard and the bulbs are 149 each from renault so there is some pros n cons to having this but i do think you can see alot better with them than u can with standard ones they arnt that dear for the conversion kits as i have fittted one to my fiesta and it was only 125 for all of it so there are places that wont rip you off
