(Previosly posted in different section) The price of bio diesel is not so cheap anymore  I spoke to our local garage today about running my 56 reg terracan on it as they collect the oil and refine & mix it with whatever it is at the garage, but they advised me against running my car on it and said it is really only suited for vehicles from 1992-2004 and they were 99% sure it would invalidate my warranty and the best thing to do is check with the manafactuers. They charge 95p a litre so not that much cheaper anyway

I guess they have  to take labour etc into account, but if you process it yourself the cost is approx .15p so they're making a good profit.

Although it is not suitable for my car they collect between 60 and 80 litres of waste cooking oil from me each week at work and i didnt even get offered a discount maybe i should change my car and do my own bio diesel!!

Is Biodiesel 100% vegetable based?

I've read that 20% in diesel makes it useable in nearly all diesel engines

As the odd contributor above has pointed out, one should be very aware of the risks here. The modern high-speed diesel engine employs a highly sophisticated pump and injector system. The thought that anyone would put COOKING OIL through them for any length of time will give engineers the wild willies. It would be nice to hear from a proper automotive engineer about this- there must be some out there somewhere.

Someone said they'd had to buy a new pump for their Rover 25, £650, thank you very much. On most car engines, these pumps will last the useful life of the vehicle itself. I had a Citroen 1.8td, which I believe has a related unit fitted to Rover 25D's, whose engine was still running perfectly well at 125,000 miles. I'd be surprised if that failure WASN'T due to the prolonged use of vegoil.

Stick to using it in the kitchen. Try rapeseed oil, much cheaper and much nicer than olive oil for cooking, and makes less fumes while doing so.     TTC.

I had a Nissan Primera which developed a faulty injector pump which was beyond repair. A new coded injector pump from the Nissan dealer would cost £2.600.00 Yes...not a typo...Two Thousand six hundred quid !! I scrapped it. For that kind of replacement  cost I would only run kosher diesel through it.

Ok, I know engines because of here and another part of the group is here , I agree it's rare for a injector pump to fail at a low mileage, But there are many reasons and at such a low mileage I believe there may be other factors involved,

It looks like the use of veggie oil won't be too interesting in the near future.

My understanding is that the Pura oil at 56p probably won't be available for long at Tesco and Sainsbury was a special offer and the price is to join all the others at around the £1 mark. So buy it quickly

I think they twigged that all those men buying 48litres and nothing else weren't the type of shopper they want.

So it's looking like used chip fat or nothing in the immediate term
