I've been reading the message board for a while (v useful thanks) but this is my first time with a question.  I'm going to get a towbar fitted to my Citroen C8,   it's primarily for a towbar mounted cycle rack and possibily a trailer.   I called Towequipe and they recommended a detachable bar because I have reverse parking sensors. They can supply and fit a witter detachable with single electrics for £288 which after contacting a few other companies seems like a good price.  My question is whether it's worth paying an additional £65 for the dedicated manufacturers electrically loom.  According to Towequipe everything should work fine without it,  they just use some standard bypass electrics (can't remember exactly what she called it).   Can anyone explain what benefits the dedicated electrics would  provide if any.   Thanks very much.

easy fitment, full integration with existing vehicle electronic management systems, reduced fire risk as non intrusive attachment to existing wires, warranty remains in tact.

the question i would ask is, is it worth paying the extra for the detachible towbar ? not all sensors pick up the towbar.

sit in the boot with car in reverse and hold a large bottle where the towbar will go, move it about and you will easily guage if it will effect. i did this with my old megane estate.

worked a treat.

Thanks Mat that's really useful.  I'll try the bottle test.
