Does the tow ball have to be greased regular with the alko stabiliser as my van keeps creaking when we are going round corners sounds like a bit like ropes on a boat creaking, can any one help ???

Absolutely NOT!!!   if the hitch looks like this.

The Alko has brake pads inside the hitch that grip the tow ball.  The squeaking that you are hearing is the brake pads squealing against the tow-ball because they are dirty. 

Get some emery cloth and clean the brake pads.  Then remove all the rust from the towball with enery cloth and make sure the towball cover is on.

NO GREASE PLEASE..... get some brake cleaner and clean the pads,also clean the ball of all rust or high spots with fine sand paper then clean off with white spirit.it creaks because its doing the job its designed to do, griping the ball very tight.as said above its dirty somewhere.

as michael said, I use a medium grafe to remove the rust then fine to polish the ball before a good spray with cleaner. your balls can never be too clean!!!
