I tow our Abbey GTS 416 1433KG max with a 95 Estate 3.0 litre diesel.  Super towing tool, lots of kerb weight, loads of grunt, great on the motorway cruising in 5th.  Not the frugalist on fuel, but thats the downside of towing  a modern heavyish outfit.  Changing mine in Oct this year, probably for a Honda CRV 2.2 EX.  Got to change cos its a co. car.  Shame, not that I'll miss paying the taxman for the privilage of driving the Saab, as its 202kgms on the C02 emissions list.  The Honda is only 170 odd and will save me money.

Wouldn't put you off the Saab in anyway.  Does the job of towing with ease and safely.

I've had a 3.0 tid for 6 years towing a 1700 kg Hymer. The car is suberb and would highly reommend it. It has been utterly reliable and the build is first rate. I normally change cars every 3 years but the Saab is so good I've kept it for 6 and still have no desire to change it. Towing mpg is around 22 but I have seen as much as 26. This is towing 1700 kgs at 65 mph. Solo mpg on a long run is 43 ish, more if I take it easy.

Only drawback is the dealer price for servicing but I'venow found an independant specialist. Go for it, you won't regret it.
