Hi
I posted this in the wrong place, should have been a reply to the following topic:
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=20&TopicID=149414
I have a tribute 650 (07 model) so feel free to ask Q's. You'll also find a lot of info at http://www.tribby.co.uk
For my money, I think the Tribby is excellent value for money, the main reason I bought one is that I did not have the extra 10K required for a similarly specced Murvi Morello or Piccolo!
I bought mine second hand with 4K on the clock.
Likes:
- Nice to drive
- Handling - was surprised at how much you can fling it about!
- Looks
- Separate shower - I wild camp a lot and its nice not to have to wipe everything down after a shower.
- Overall size - I use it as an everyday vehicle - although I do cycle most places.
- Performance - to get past the 45-50MPH CSD's
- Inboard fresh water tank
- Massive fridge/freezer
- Full oven
- Decent level of storage
- Diesel space heating
- Water tight (thus far!)
Dislikes:
- Lots of squeaks and rattles (mostly now fixed)
- Waste tank not securely mounted (fixed)
- 270 degree shower curtain (fixed by fitting B&Q wetwall to exposed wooden side panels in shower)
- General build quality/assembly of the conversion is not brilliant (when compared to say a Murvi). Currently fixing this.
- Lack of insulation in side panels (will fix for winter!)
- Judder when reversing up an incline (Fiat wont admit that this is a problem!) - All Sevel vans suffer from this... but it appears from various reviews that the new automatic vans do not - I suspect Fiat etc have found/fixed the issue and kept quiet about it...
- Water boiler is Gas only rather than the gas/elect version.
- Lack of kitchen worktop space (the 550 has more)
- Wasted space in back of gas locker (will fix!)
- Incorrectly wired fridge (fixed)
I can however forgive all the above for the 10K saving over a Morello (comp new with new). Its all fixable, but its a van for those who don't mind a touch of DIY - which is where http://www.tribby.co.uk comes in.
I get somewhere around 30-32MPG, but having said that I don't tend to hand around. Driving economically, I think you would see more like 33-34.
