Does anyone tow with a Kia Sportage? I am looking at a 3 year old 2.0lt 110bhp diesel with 22000 miles on the clock.  I would like the 138bhp engine but just cant afford one.  What are they like as a tow car? I will be towing a Bailey Pageant Series 6 Monarch at about 1250kg. And any problems with reliabillity.  i will be test driving this Saturday and if all goes well will buy, but would like others opinion re. drivabillity.

We have a New 08 plate 2Ltr Sportage XS and   it. With a 7 year warrant you can't lose. Great towing vechicle ours has the bigger engine. The intelligent 4 wheel drive is excellent .

On Monday I pick up our new 2.5 Ltr Kia Sorento Titan.

Are you going to have to fit a towbar? If so check the height of your Bailey hitch when level (should be about 385mm to the middle of the ball). I have a Hyundai Tucson (basically the same car, and the same towbars fit both cars) and fitted a removeable Brink towbar. Found with our new caravan the towball was much too high. (460mm to middle of ball unladen or add another 25mm to the top of the ball, a figure confirmed by Brink). With 75Kg noseweight the ball only dropped 8mm. Ended up having to change the complete towbar. Witter towbars are 440mm, PCT are 410mm. Bought the PCT, it fitted easier than the Brink.

Not good news to tow with the caravan nose up.

Have now got a redundant Brink towbar sat in the garage.

I have that model, a 2005 XS bought last year with a similar milage. As I've said on another thread it tows my Stirling Eccles Topaz very smoothly. There's lots of kit and mpg is fair... though no-where near official figures
I find mine tows with the caravan a little nose down, the (garage fitted) bar is fixed at 390mm

Our XS has a detachable witter (Kia fitted) it caravan looks a wee bit nose down when towing
