Hey guys, did anyone notice that I posted above to say that I have managed to tow again since the accident? I was actually pretty happy with this but this thread seems to have been taken over.

Well done to you, it takes guts to tow after such a fright, I know how I felt when the van waved  about behind me when I was towing due to under inflated tyres (the fault of a mobile carvan service chap I might add) and I was completely terrified but it was nothing like the probs you had so I think you are a star to tow again

I think you are brilliant to get behind the wheel and tow again.  It was such a nasty incident made even more frightening with having your children in the car.

Safe journeys to everyone.

Kats

I have made mistakes all my life in various ways, not just caravanning. BUT I have never made the same mistake twice !!

If you learn from your mistakes you are always a better person for it.

We have only ever had a nasty snake once, funnily enough we had just changed over at Rownhams services on the M27 en route to Dorset, so by this time had already done 130 miles. Her Ladyship was only doing 40mph when it started snaking horrendously, fortunately she stayed calm and controlled it. To this day we don't know why, as always we loaded it the same way, the weather was fine, 1am in the morning no trucks overtaking, etc etc. it just happened, 'cos things do don't they!

Things sure do just happen. And yes, having the kids in the car and being pregnant do make it worse! But I am not one to be put off and will tow again - trouble is OH is a terrible passenger now - miles worse than before! He can't tow now at all.

The best advice I can give to your OH is get back in the seat, I nearly sold mine when I had a bad snake in the lakes (hit a dip on one side with a faulty stabiliser) and I was absolutley terrified and dorve the rest of the way at 40mph. I didnt take the van out for a couple of weeks afterwards and nearly packed in. I let my dad drive one night as we took it out for a spin just to get me used to the usual movements of a van, took it out then and now drive confidently again. PLEASE, PLEASE urge your OH to start towing again or he may not tow again. Plus it might ease him as a passenger too.

Just got back from trip to Cornwall on M5. Going down -no problem towing and no hint of swaying and driving at steady 55mph most of the time. Coming back with everything in the van in the same place and same speed I was experiencing swaying a lot of the time. The reason - half a tank of water onboard that I forgot to empty.
