ok whats wrong with a second hand bar type stabiliser if it's been looked after .All you need to do is either clean or replace the friction pads and adjust it,

I agree, there's not much that can go wrong with them.

you can buy a new alko as shown on a good web site complete with lock £215 to £250 its far the better when hitched up you just drive no spring bar to fit or store and i find its more stable .well worth the price for peace off mind. mike.

Yes thats exactly what you need. There's nowt to them really. The friction pads are easy & cheap to change. You just tighten the centre bolt up & push the blade sideways with some bathroom scales to test it. It should start to move at about the 4 stone mark.
They do make a bit of noise when turning, but its normal. I called Bulldog once & the (very helpful) chap told me some people actually loosen the bolt to get rid of the noise...!!!
I wouldn't pay too much as they are only about £60 new.
Make sure it comes with BOTH brackets also as they are difficult to get second hand & expensive new.
Having tried both the blade & hitch types I'd say the blade types do a better job as they dampen out the up & down movement more effectively.
Whatever you do though, please dont underestimate the importance of correct loading & ensuring the noseweight is correct. A correctly loaded & noseweighted' caravan, with a stabiliser, will give you no problems if you drive sensibly.

I can throughly recommend one of these

http://www.sasproducts.com/acatalog/Straightliner_Stabiliser.html

I have never towed with anything which was quite as stable.

AL-KO AKS 3004 Triple kit only £205 Brand new HERE

Just bought one for my new 'van. If you bought the Stabiliser, lock, Tow Ball, Cover etc all on there own you'd be talking well over £300, so at £205 its a bargain!!!

What price safety?
