Hi All,

As a bit of a newbie i'm after some advice.

At present I will be towning with a company car, but ther insurance will only cover the caravan 3rd party,

What else will i need and also is there a company that will just cover for caravan breakdown as i will be covered through my company for car breakdown.

Thanks in advance

Lee

Hi

If you insure your caravan with caravan guard they cover you for breakdown cover.  They do provide excellent cover and will price match if you have other cheaper quotes.

You need to insure the caravan itself.  Shop around.  CC is good, but there are plenty others.

Breakdown is usually in with the car, but many companies exclude caravans or have size limits.  Mayday with CC, or Arrival with the C&CC are best.

What I would say is also watch out for insurance due to theft of the towcar.
We had our car stolen recently( on holiday) and it turns out no-one would get us home with the caravan - probably need some extra insurance for that, but the standard Caravanguard policy didn't cover it

The 3rd party on caravans from the car insurers is standard, you have to insure the van separately for any other risks. The best breakdown insurers for caravans ( and motorhomes ) comes from either the CC or the CCC for three reasons. Firstly they are the only ones to guarantee to recover a broken down caravan, secondly they will recover all caravans that are street legal in the UK ( all the others place a length restriction on them ), and thirdly both organisations breakdown cover will take you to your holiday destination, drop you off and then come back at the end of your holiday and recover you to home if that is what you want.

The CC use Green Flag (They rebrand it as Mayday) and the C+CC use the RAC. My experience is that the Mayday cover from CC is far superior to the RAC and you don't need to be a member to use it. There was a thread here a few days ago which claimed that Mayday would not cover a vehicle over ten years old. I can categorically state this is a load of old tosh. I have a 15 year old vehicle which I have just taken out a Mayday policy on and the car before that was over ten years old too.

Further more, the vehicles were both over 10 years old when the policy begun too.

Hi Lee, I also tow with a leased Company car,I have my caravan insurance with the CC, The lease company breakdown cover, with the AA, only covers the car and not the caravan so i have separate cover with Mayday although not had to use them yet,I did have Arrival cover through RAC a few years ago a when i had to use their services they were excellent. Like many of the other comments, i would say go with either Mayday or Arrival, you do have to be a member of either CC or C&CC to join their specialist breakdown schemes, but IMHO well worth it.
