I have an 04 Freelander. I also have the Haynes manual which recommends 30 back and front normally. However, for full load and towing recommends 44 for the rear.
I used to use 35 on the rear when towing and recently up it to 44....it feels better with the extra pressure.
hi again Andy quote, Freelander owner's handbook all driving conditions (all tyre sizes) front & rear(lbf/in2) 30 same in both Freelander hand books i have had
As stated before I have a Freelander TD4 Auto 2004. The handbook says 30 psi all round. It seems to me that some extra pressure in rear tyres when towing makes sense. Haynes workshop manual says 44 at the rear when towing. I've tried this and it certainly makes a difference but seems a bit too much.
So I looked up the Michelin website for advice. See extract below....
"For good handling of a car / trailer combination, Michelin advises :
- Radial car tyre pressure:
In the absence of special towing recommendations from your vehicles' manufacturer, the rear tyres should be set to the "fully laden" pressures. Where "fully laden" and "standard" pressures are the same, increase the tyre pressures at the rear of the car by 4 to 7 psi (0.3 - 0.5 bar), cold, compared to the "standard" pressure."
I think I'll do 35 psi in the rear in future.....
Any further thoughts ? Do any of you put in a few more PSI on rear tyres when towing ?
I've a 2003 TD4 Auto and usually keep 30psi all round, but it does seema little soft on the back - I'll try incresing the pressure in the back tyres to say 38psi when I'm next out with the caravan, but thats not to the 1st October - I'll then report back - seems to make sense.
