I've never done it, but know someone who did it twice in a week!
Now that what I call stupid.     (no offence meant) I think I would only make this  (expensive) mistake once.

I also know someone who managed to fill a petrol car with diesel. He told me what he had done and asked me to drain the tank. I challenged him because the diesel filler won't fit the neck of a petrol filler.

He said he had a **** of a job getting it in but still filled it up!

(It was the brother of the one who filled a diesel van with petrol twice in a week!)

Just to bring you up to date, BP insist that this is a franchised operation and MOTO are responsible...BP have forwarded my complaint on to them.  No response yet from MOTO.

Still haven't found anywhere delivering petrol from black pumps/nozzles but if you would all keep looking, I would be grateful.

Apparently, so the AA man said, this is a problem where BP have installed new pumps...god knows why they would make all their new pumps/nozzles the wrong colour but it is beginning to look as if this is the case.

Noticed yesterday our local BP garage has both green and black hoses on their unleaded.   All diesel are black.

I once put about seven quids worth of unleaded in my diesel car when the tank was under a quarter full. Three years ago, that was about seven litres. Having discovered my error, I then filled the tank to the neck with diesel (about another 48 litres) thereby diluting the petrol right down.

I then drove all the way from Leigh Delamere services on the M4 to home - just over a hundred miles - and the car never went better. I must say it was a very sweaty journey home with the caravan on the back, listening to every beat of that engine!

I'm told that it is a much greater problem to put diesel into a petrol engined car than the other way around. In any event, I've been very careful ever since and because of the very instances documented here, make sure that I'm loading the correct fuel.

Vic

I filled up with unleaded instead of diesel now have a reminder when I open filler tank..  Cost over £2500 as car was brand new and to keep warranty up everything had to be replaced - but claimed off insurance  as  "Accidential Damage" Thanks goodness we had Claim Protected Insurance.

Just to keep you all posted, still not received even an acknowledgment from MOTO yet but the AA have been in touch and want further details, so it's looking like at least the AA are prepared to take up the cause!!

If they think I am going to let this drop (now I've cooled down somewhat) they can think again.

I always use BP Garage as it shows to be the cheapest in my area on petrolprices.com for 5 miles, also happens to be the closest!

They have black pipes for all fuel, but green filler nozzles for Unleaded and Black for Diesel and the forecourt and shop was refurb'ed about a month, so has new pumps etc but are the same colour as the old ones!!

But using any petrol station i always check which nozzle I pick up, regardless of the colour and have never used wrong fuel and I have had  as many diesels as I have had petrol cars!

Just habit of checking what I put in!

I managed to put petrol in my diesel car at the end of a 300 mile rtip to Cornwall; in spite of having had the car for over 3 years.  And it is a very common error. I was able to put things right with the only loss being the contaminated fuel in the tank; thanks to our friendly and helpful site owner.

I discarded the mixed fuel in a drum for this purpose at a local ambulance garage. Apparently it was a regular problem with the ambulances, the wrong mix going either way.

Bertie.
