No not seriously wedged (not us anyway) but like Paul says sometimes you need a car that does the job, and for us with 3 teenagers and 2 big dogs we need space and pulling power, the Paj gives us that.
Having said that it doesn't go far, we use my Smart whenever possible - and leave the kids and dogs at home. hee hee.
you really dont want to know, all im saying is it keeps the oil companies in business, in fact i wonder why they dont give us the vip treatment when they see us pull up, its that bad really

Yep - and if your Trooper is like mine was, it fibs about the mileage you are covering. The speedo and odometer in mine were about 7% fast - so you need to adjust the mpg figure you think you are getting downwards by that percentage.
Our 2lt Santa Fe does between 36 and 37 solo and when towing the van (1500kgs) drops to between 33 and 36 depending on road types. My wee Suzuki Ignis does at least 42.
Our Sedona Automatic gives similar figures. Around 25 towing a Pennine Pathfinder with a roof box on and the six of us. About 30 solo without the extra bits of drag. Anything is better than a man who towed with a Scammell tank recovery truck with a petrol engine. That was measured the other way round. In gallons to the mile. 2.5 to 3!!
What an eye-opener this thread is. there must be some seriously wedged people around.
Alan
Definitely not in this case.
Our 2.7tdi 4x4 varies when towing but realisticaly it returns around 25 ish and thats very ish. Overall though running costs are lower than the equivalent aged diesel car and we have a 1.3 petrol Yaris for non towing trips which sips gently at the petrolas.
The reason for having a beefy car is all part of the master plan that has recently come to fruition and included buying and safely towing a decent sized comfy van

Definitely not in this case (though I do dream at every lottery draw)

When I initially started this thread off I was quite happy and then a few figures made me quite envious. Now I think I am not doing so bad actually!!!!!
I agree with some comments though ..... if you tow a curryvan it is worth an extra few quid at the pumps, especially in Spain.
