Thinking again of changin over our towcar to take advantage of market conditions and wondered if anyone had either of these 2 vehicles or any thoughts about them. The caravan we have at the moment is more than light enough for either but we will be upgrading to a decent 4/5 berth in the ner future.

Have a look at Saltford motors and see a new one for £12k Mine pull well and getting 50mpg

Well the second one is £1500 cheaper and probably only 6 months older with hardly any more miles on the clock. Unless the newer car has something spectaculary different on it I would be going for the 07 car.

I fancy the SRi version more as it looks a lot better car for less money, only 6 months older. Not sure how an SRi would be a s a tow car though. Firmer suspension and traction control sound like good ideas but how does the sportier car fare as a tow car??

Do check the actual handbook. Vauxhall have a nasty habit of quoting a much power max tow than one would expect.

I tow with a 150 Cdti Sri estate (see gallery), pulls no problem and I can get 56mpg on a run, 35 towing and circa 48 round town. I personally would not go for another Sri, I would be looking at the Elite model for more creature comforts. My wife has a Renault Scenic and I love the soft suspension on that when I have been in the Vectra for a while, it's far more comfy than the Vectra, but sadly not up to towing the van.

I have an Astra Estate with the same engine as ssteve.
Its great for towing. Plenty of torque and great economy.

The only drawback is that I wish the car was a little heavier and that I had 4 wheel drive on occasions for getting off wet grass!

By the way both cars look good, but I would go for the top of the range Elite.

I'm glad I have a mondeo then my TDCi 115 has more than enough power any more would be an embarassment.
