I have a volvo XC70 D5. they are boom proof. 177.000miles on the clock. more power then you will ever need. the car weight is over 1800kg & as a 1800kg tow limit. i tow a bailey senator twin axel thats 1500kg. it tows this easy. on a run with caravan in tow i get around 30mpg. solo its any thing from 30+ upto 50mpg. i like the XC90 & this should be just as boom proof. i think they have the same running gear. fuel consumption would be about 15% less then the XC70.

Sorry Snowy, I changed from a Land Cruiser to the Shogun, and while it could out perform the Shogun in many ways, road holding and stabilitywere not two of them.

Now I find that very difficult to believe that a Shogun (as good as they are) can out perform a Landcruiser on Road holding and stability....I have had them both and can definately say the Landcruiser is better in every single department...

Landcruiser for me - I am on my second - both diesels, both autos. In nearly 5 years of ownership I have never had a SINGLE problem - they are brilliant. My LC3 does 31mpg, even on our Cornish roads and about 26mpg towing.

I tried most of the others mentioned above but none felt as good as the LC.

Good luck with your choice.

Ditto, although a V70 in my case.

I'm always surprised that people decide that a 4*4 is what they want.

Generally speaking I don't feel that anyone should need one of these unless you are really going to go off-roading

But it's personal choice of course.
