Hiya' Adrian,  It's a few answers like that one that I was looking for.  I found it hard to believe that the Shogun could be as bad as a few on here have painted it.  I have always liked the look of it (and the Nissan Pathfinder, which is a very similar beast.)  I am not crossing the Shogun off my list just yet as I feel there are more out there who tow with one and wouldn't swap for anything else.

Thanks for the bit of inspiration.

Regards,  Les Wilson.

Hi Les .I ve been off line (work got in the way again) but I cant understand why you're crossing shoguns off your list. I dont think any of us using  them would swap for anything else but I accept that you have your reasons

Completely agree, I would have another anyday, In fact I'm considering another if i can get a decent price for mine. I have had a defender, surf and shogun, the landy was the best off road but the shogun wins hands down at the whole package. Power, comfort, running costs etc.

Hello' again, and many thanx for all your input.  The lack of positive information during the first week got me to thinking that the reliability/running costs for the Shogun might have been an embarrassment to their owners and began giving me doubts,  but now the proper info is coming forward from the owners/users of the Shogun then it has now gone back to the top of my list.  I have looked at the Nissan range and all seem fair......but still don't do it for me like the Shogun, so thanx again all, I'll keep you posted as to what I end up with.

Regards,   Les Wilson.

Had LR Discovery, Freelander and Defender in the last ten years all new. Now have a 2006 3 door auto. Shogun Diesel Best by a long way. So good towing 1600Kg you have to watch out doing 70 plus up hills let alone on the level. Solo 26/28 Towing 20/22. Wonderful performance from stop and not a problem in 3 years now. Towed all over Europe.
Driven other 4 x 4's and the problem with the 2lt tugs they still do only 24 towing but struggle while this just gets on with it what ever. They last forever as well.

Skynner - is the swb a smooth ride? I have a 2ooo Land Cruiser but thought of getting a newer 4WD.

Misterig

Yes but all my tugs have been 2 door and that is another reason why whe traded in my wifes freelander 3 door garage hog for the Shogun. Its a very smoth ride and so parkable when single. Used SWB Defenders in the plant industry years ago for towing plant all the time and they were all SWB. The Shogun 85% is about 2200KG and can tow up to 3500 if carefull. Would never go back to a LR. But down side is 20.000 on the clock and its worth nothing so we shall be keeping it for ever it seems.

Hiya' Peter,

Wow but how's that for coincidence? the Shogun that we (my wife Margaret and I) had our hearts set on was the SWB 3 door auto. (preferably either the Warrior or the Elegance) so your reply has made this thread worthwhile.  You get so mant tales about gear box trouble and brake discs having to be replaced every five minutes etc.  You are right about the value of all 4 x 4s falling really low.  That was one of the reasons that swung us towards one - plus the fact that we have a heavy caravan, but the Shogun does it for me, it just has that something extra.

Many thanx,  Les Wilson.

ps..... like the photo's on your photodex site. Really interesting.

Well we were glad of our 4 wheel drive recently. I got to work with no worries in the bad snow, and towed the van round a site last week covered in packed ice and snow.
Having said that, we are now selling our Pajero, as it is hardly ever used, and it's such a waste to see it on the drive 48 weeks a year.
