Hi Donna - I tow too, and like you the first few miles I had white knuckles from gripping the wheel so tightly. Then I relaxed only to think when automatically looking in the rear view mirror ' Blooming 'eck who's the idiot in the white van driving so close to the back of me ?' ..... before realising it was the caravan!

Much more confdent now though! Go away on trips on my own with the kids when the OH is playing cricket. Folks on site have always been willing to help with pitching. Caravannners are a friendly bunch.

Karen.

Hi Caz, when Ii hit a really bad snake at approximately 60mph, I took my foot off the accelerator and allow the car and rig to slow down but this did not stop the snaking which was really really bad and so the only other option is was to increase my speed again and power out of the snake. On doing this the snake stopped immediately.  This may not be a good idea unless your tow car is powerful enough to do this, but I am not highly experienced at snakes and don't intend to become highly experienced either!

My experience of snakes has been that they tend to occur when going downhill and it would be very difficult to accelerate fast enough to pull away from the van as it is freewheeling & trying to overtake the car - this is what has caused the snake. Slowing down will apply the caravan brakes & bring it back into line.

Hi I tow also, but a bit bigger than most of the ladies on here I have a hgv lience and do heay haulage and yes I know just what you mean by the strange looks from the men.  The longest load I ve had is 80 ft and 14 ft wide I had a polie escort and boy did I get some stick! reversing isnt so much of a problem if you remember that at first turn your sterring wheel the way you want trailer to go  i.e. trailer to the right steering to the right, as then once its got turning turn your steering the opposite way and take your time if someone starts beeping just turn the radio up and carry on (unless your about to hit something of course)  if you want a plae to go and practise then a sunday on an industrial estate is fairly quiet and sometimes theres a few bollards that you could borrow to reverse around.

Elly towed ours back from Salisbury, well most of the way.  I am sure she will be along to tell you the full story.

Not sure I can go to sleep just yet ....
