 Could any members email me with a question i have ??

i am about to buy a 1990 Abbey gt512 cossalt 5 berth van, i have asked the present owner the max towing weight on the plate near the door he says it 950kg. That seems very light for such a big van, i would love anyone who can tell me if this van is that light? cheers deano email :deanorufc at live.co.uk

It should give two weights unladen and unladen. If , as you suspect, its the unladen weight then the loading allowance for most caravans ia around 200kgs so at least you have a rough idea of what the maximum weight might be. However it is important that you confirm the exact details from the plate on the van.

It could be right on that age of van - we had a 1989 Sprite Major 5 berth that was only that heavy. But best check the plate, as David says, to be sure.

The older vans were much lighter, our 5 berth elddis has a max weight of 1050 kg odd.  It was made in 1997.  If you look at the websites of today's vans you are lucky if the unladen weight is that low lol!
