Can anyone recomend a family sized car that would be able to tow a 4 berth caravan . maybe a baily pagent. and sta y within the 85% rule. my wife dose not want a4x4 . maybe about 1200kg thanks

Our Astra Estate 1.9TCDI (150ps) suits us.
Vauxhall max towing weight is 1400kg.

We tow an Elddis Odyssey 480 (1350kg max) with no problem.
Returns 50ish mpg without van, up to mid 30's towing.

No good on wet grass though!

We tow a 6 birth Pageant S7 with a Zafira and it is a fine tug and reasonably economical solo. As we have a mover on the caravan, the wet grass issue is not a problem for us.

I tow a Bailey Pageant Bordeaux - max weight 1366kg with my Audi A4 Avant 2.0 tdi no problem. The car is for sale if you're interested!!!!!

We tow our Pageant with a Kia Sorento, which is overkill but what the heck!

A Kia Sportage or Hyundi Tucson would tow as well, or Honda CRV, Nissan X trail, Freelander etc.

If you prefer ordinary cars, Mondeos seem to be highly rated on here(Especially TDCI)

Volvo V70 diesel. Just towed my van 320 miles, and never really noticed it on the back. 33mpg wasn't to be sniffed at either. So I'm pleased!

Brilliant car when it's not on towing duties, and that is important as I don't tow 95% of the time.
