I just use a bungee cord to attach the two plugs to the hitch handle. This sort of gathers the wires in the middle, and leaves slack for turning without allowing anything near the ground.
You could always change it to the new single plug. I thought about that, but it was very fiddly trying to get both wires into one plug. Probably best to change the two wires for a single 13 core, but the bungee cord works just fine.
