Hi Little Bob, he needs to sell the car so he can tell you anything, and believe you me from the stories on here all sorts of things are said!
I would check the plates on the car yourself or ask Vauxhall. We have been finding the online websites are not giving very accurate or up to date figures hence my advice is to get the data off of the vehicle.
I've a mate who tows with an Omega, his is petrol but he tows with no problems. My brother had a number of different Omega variants over the years, the last one was the big V6 petrol, what a lovely car. Beware of it's resale value though, they're not made any more & they're a big car so IMO you're in for a long term ownership once you get it unless you're prepared to lose a lot of money on it.
We normally tow with OH's dads Omega GLS, it's a 2.2 petrol automatic. Our van is a 1994 Abi Award Nightstar, we have had no problems towing whatsoever, although it's going up for sale now as he's just purchased a Range Rover. IMHO the Omega is a great towcar.
