Sorry to sort of jump in on this thread, I take it when they (greenflag and the NTTA) state the maximum length is 7m. Does this exclude the hitch and the A frame. The reason I ask is that I am looking at getting a new van with a total length of 7.23m including the hitch and A frame, is this coverable from Greenflag and does it conform to the NTTA standards.
Yes, it conforms to NTTA standards, and there are loads of caravans on the road with equivalent length.
From the recovery point of view, Green Flag will only accept you if you are a member of, or join, the Caravan Club, and take out their (C.C.) Mayday recovery.
Mayday (operated by Greenflag via the Caravan Club), has different length restictions than Greenflag direct. Therefore to get the higher grade recovery facilities, you must join the Caravan Club and then use their Mayday recovery system(even though it is still operated by Greenflag. Greenflag also operate a HGV recovery scheme so that a big motorhome maybe recovered by them.Remember that the Greenflag scheme utilises recovery agents acting on their behalf and the "job" will be allocated to the agent with the appropriate equipment in the area of the breakdown. I used to help out at a recovery company and we were agents for a few different schemes (incl Greenflag) and big HGV's)
Greenflag would be able to cover a trl that requires a commercial to tow as they operate an HGV breakdown service, you just need to talk to the correct department and ask for the correct cover.
Just a reminder Mayday will not cover you if your car is Leased or a Motability vechicle, the only one to cover you is C &CC Arrival scheme which is run by the RAC.

Just wondered how they would know.
Just been looking on the C.C. site to see what questions Mayday asked to apply for cover. Year of mfr., make, model etc. but dont think it asked who actually owned the car.
Mine is a leased company car so I am looking for recovery for the caravan. If I have to pay for the car as well then I would do if necessary.
Comments?

I have a Motabilty car when i asked over the tel thats when i found out no Motability & no Lease cars, but if you are going abroad Red Pennant will cover you does not make sense to me.
I think the issue with leased and motability vehicles is that they already have breakdown insurance and that it is against the law to have two policies for the same thing. The only exception for this I believe is life insurance.

Hi,
Not sure that it is against the law to be insured with two companies, but I think I am right in saying that you can only claim from one.

The motability car i have is a Kia Carens it as breakdown recovery scheme with KIA, which is provided by the RAC, it as recovery scheme with Motabilty provided by RAC and i have breakdown recovery for when i am towing with C&CC also provided by the RAC, i have to have the one because the other 2 will not cover the caravan, by the way the first 2 are provided FREE.
You may be right in on;y being able to claim from one policy, but if you check your policy, it is usually invalid if you are covered by another policy. So one policy would nullify the other. I am sure when I tried to get insurance on my parents car while mine was off the road I was told that as the vehicle was already insured on another policy it was against the law to insure me to drive it on another.
