Dear All,

We're currently looking for a new car as I'm starting to lose faith in Renault.

We're going to lease one and were originally looking at the VW Touran Bluemotion as the pricing was very competitive!

I've since discovered that the leasing company do a Skoda Roomster for £50 less again and I was wondering if it would be suitable for towing our TT (A cabernon saturn)

I'd be grateful for any advice anyone could give me.

I don't see why not, trailer tents aren't heavy and the Roomster is a reasonably sized car.  If you are in doubt, check the max tow weight of your car and the weight of your trailer tent.

Here is the spec for the 1.4 Scout for instance.

Your car should have a plate on the door pillar or under the bonnet showing the weights or else in the handbook.

It looks like it might only have a 900kg max tow for a braked outfit so do make sure you do your calculations carefully and know for sure the weight of your TT and car.

Just check with the leasing company about putting towbars on. Some can be a bit funny

I have a Skoda Roomster 1.6 through the Motability scheme, which is a sort of lease hire, and I'm really thrilled with it! It has great visibility, lovely acceleration and a huge boot.

Until a couple of weeks ago I was under the impression I had to get a dealer fitted tow bar - for which I was quoted £500 !!!! I don't have to thankfully, any VAT registered garage can fit it for me for the going rate, which I think is likely to be around £160 - much better. You may want to check with the lease hire company before going ahead in case they have a similar thing going.

The Skoda UK website indicates just 450 kg of braked towing weight. (click on the 'weight' selection button and scroll down the menu)

Can't get your link to show weights, have looked around the site to no avail.  However the link I posted gives an unbraked figure of 450 kg and a braked one of 900 kg.

It does seem to have low tow weights hence I have recommended the OP be sure via the plates/handbook of their car's weight limits.

Page 16 of the brochure shows 450 kg for unbraked trailers and various for braked depending on model.

I tow a Bailey Ranger with the 1.4TDI
Tows OK but bit underpowered - trouble staying in 5th on motorways etc. headwinds are a problem The noseweight issue has never been a problem.
I did take the car and get it chipped to a supposed 110 bhp but didnt make a lot of difference. Loads of power if you will let it rev. but this brings down the MPG.
Never had the problem with Montego, Golf, Scenic 1.9TDI got near enough 50 solo or towing !! Roomster about 50 solo but 25 -30 towing !
