Has anyone anything good to say about these cars. I've seen a nice 06 407sw  2.0hdi sport and have until Tuesday to decide if I want it. I contacted the previous owner and they said they have had no issues with it. They traded it in for an Audi. It comes with the remainder of manufacturers warranty.

No matter what car I want to buy, and I change quite often, when I read up on them the negatives seem to jump out at me. The 407 seems to have plenty of bashers out there. I have a Volvo S60 which is starting to rattle and is needing a new Cat fitted which is going to be expensive, so time to get rid.

Anyone with a good experience of owning a 407?

Heres hoping

Paul

Years ago I had a Peugeot 405TD and it was an excellent towcar but I have not been back to the make since. The only thing I would say about the 407 is to check that you are happy with what is a fairly low noseweight allowance.

Hi David, this time last year I had a 406 which was fantastic but due to getting a heavier van it had to go. The Volvo was bought on a whim and sadly looks as though it is going to start costing money thats why I wanted to go back to a Peugeot but to my horror everyone seems to be slating it. Over 50,000 have been sold in the UK since it was introduced and  I was wondering is it just a small but loud minority who are having probs.

The nose weight is low but with my gas locker being to the rear side of the van I should be able to manage.

Hello Paul

I had a 406 1.9 d estate and bought a 407 2.0d HDI 136 about a year ago (3 year old ). I tow a pennine folding camper with a full load inside. The engine is awesome I sometimes forget that the trailer is there. The weakness is the complexity of the electrics (various bits have gone but i have spnet less than £400 getting them fixed ), it has sensor tyre pressure valves and I have had that system disabled and replaced with standard rubber ones. All in I am pretty plesed with the car I wanted a Mondeo but my wife wanted the Peugot (check out the dual mass flywheel problem on Ford diesals) , I reckon the more you investigate the more you find out!!

Just bought the 407 SW 2.0 Hdi 136 BHP, bit of a mouthfull ain't it? :) Anyway, I have moved from the 405 to the 406 and now the 407 such is my faith in these cars from nearly 15 years of ownership so I can't really sing their praises enough. Occasionally you may have glitches, some may be pricey fixes however, with the wealth of information available on the WWW, a cheaper fix can usually be found.
I bought my car with a faulty display, the a/c, trip computer, radio info etc.
Peugeot quoted me £270 fitted, I found one on Ebay £15 inc postage, working and tested, having found out how to fit it, it was a ten minute job, job done.
Pound for pound, I think they're nicer drives than their usual counterparts from Ford and Vauxhall, are nicer looking, imho, and are much better appointed inside.
At the end of the day, it's a matter of taste but I've lived with them for years now and wouldn't change brand for anything. :D

Hi Paul,

I have the 407sw 2.0 hdi and think its a great towcar. I previously had a 406 and found that great too.

the 407 has plenty of power for towing is very smooth and refined and is definitely the best towcar I have had.
