Yes, I too have the same problem. Put all heavy objects over axles, even put the gas cylinders in an old sleeping bag and put them under the side dinette which is directly above axles. All our camping chairs, satellite dish and tripod are under the fixed bed at rear. All I have in the front locker is ground sheet, pegs, watering can and a bucket. Still have nose weight of 100kgs which is max for both car and caravan. Did once put ground sheet in bin liner and put over axles, got it down to just over 90kg but couldn't hold it in a straight line. Back to 100kg and travels A1.

As a matter of interest what gauge are you using?I had one of those you put on top of the tow ball and struggled to get the weight below 100 kg till I checked the gauge and found it was reading 20 kg high.

Sounds like a design fault, axle to far back, I'd be taking this further. A caravan should tow with gas bottles in the locker.

I used to have a Lunar Saturn and it's noseweight was over 80kg with a battery fitted but otherwise empty - i.e. nothing in the front locker.    Keeping the noeseweight down was a struggle for the whole of the 14years I had the van.    The spare wheel went in the van, just behind the axle and gas bottles in the car. Even then, loaded, the noseweight was still around 80kg.

Cheers
Andrew

I agree with Karim you should be able to tow with gas bottles in front locker , my series 6 Pageant Burgundy with two 10kg BP gaslight is around 85kg noseweight and the X-trail is rated at 100kg   so no problem all i carry under bed is to lightweight chairs . The whole outfit comes in at respectable 86 % match , if i was to reduce to only one gas cyclinder it would probably be around 75- 80 kg noseweight

Chris -

What do you have in front lockers inside the van and stored under front bench seats?

I have a 75Kg noseweight limit and also had problems with 2 gas bottles and spare wheel in front locker but got it balanced ok with wheel stored under van.

also congrats on first post after nearly 5 years membership! [:)]

I have a Swift Sanymere 2 berth and stripped everything out battery and gas bottle included and only managed to get it down to 86kg. Ended up changing towcar.

Agri -

That doesn't seem right, when you say stripped out, do you mean the front locker or the entire van?, were you sure the gauge was measuring correctly?

You car handbook, or the maufacturer\dealer should tell you the max noseweight for your car. Your Caravan will also have a max weight. You should aim at around 7% of the van's weight but don't exceed either maximum.
