You can tow it provided that the max weight of the trailer is less than the unladen weight of the car, so with an Audi A4 and a 1000kg trailer you are fine on that condition, you also need to be aware that when you add together the maximum laden weight of the car and the maximum laden weight of the trailer you must be less than 3500kg so unless the maximum laden weight of the A$ is more than 2500kg you are fine again. You can find the maximum laden weight of the A$ on the plate which will be either on a door pillar, or on one of the inner wings under the bonnet or in some similar place on the car. Therewill be 4 weights on it, one is the max train weight (3509 ) one is the max laden weight and the other two are the maximum axle weights for the front and rear axles.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
