Hi, I need some help urgently! We have just returned from a wonderful weekend away at Fforest Fields but on the way home our caravan started to make a really loud creaking noise from the towball area. It only happens when we are turning slowly left or right. I have a non greased tow ball on a detachable swan neck and an alko stabiliser. the noise is so loud people are stopping and staring plus it is really irritating.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing it?
I bet it is. If your vehicle/van has articulated further than the norm, it's possible the hitch has picked up some otherwise un-touched contaminant from the tow ball.
Get some wet & dry on the entire ball to make ure it's clean and free of any paint, plus clean the pads and I'm sure it will clear.

I have got this problem all of a sudden after I went over a sleeping policeman and something scraped.I cannot see that it would be dirt or will it?
if you get the slightest bit of grit inside it will squeak same as break pads do.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Deisels are the worst for contaminating anti snake hitches, a quick clean with brake cleaner & a rag will keep contam at bay, it should be done before & after every journey.

I also clean the tow ball with low grit emery and spray with Brake cleaner, also spray up in to hitch head and wipe. Works every time.Do this before you hitch and your pads will last ages.
