If it has only slipped one tooth then there is a good chance no damage gas been done. The OP only says it has slipped, so we don't know how far. It is easy to check though by fitting the timing pins and see how far out it is. Inevitably you will fit a new chain, so it may be worth the cost of a new chain and trying it. This can be done without doing a full engine strip. Unfortunately, all the details on the car have not been given, so the advise given on the thread is only going to be partially relevent.
if the timing has slipped due to the chain or tensioner the last thing you want to do is a compression test. these engines are very time consumimg to strip & rebuild also very costly.
the same engine is fitted to the transit & they have had major problems with the timing chain tensioner
i would say your best way forward is a reman engine from ford the possibilty of a close inspection of the dmf & clutch on strip down
this is a full days work
make sure you contact ford motor company s customer assistance centre & put your point of view across as this is NOT a common fault on mondeo car only the transit due to extreme harsh driveing conditions of the white van man
Ask Ford to time the engine up, fit a new chain kit, remove the injectors and turn the engine over by hand. If all is turning freely they should then be doing a compression test. Should cost you no more than 5 hours labour and the price of the chain kit. They will then have a better idea of the extent of the damage. You can then negotiate a goodwill gesture from them. I would suggest if they want to put a new engine in, given it is only just out of warranty, with history and low mileage, they should be offering 90% of the bill as a good will gesture. Good luck & dont give up.
