Hi All,

We are setting of for the annual get-away soon... from West Yorkshire to a CL in Harlech (LL45 2HS)

I have put the route into Google Maps, and it has given me two options....

A55 / A470 / A487 / A496 (146 miles)

A55 / A487 / A496 (166 miles - following the coast on duel carrige ways)

My question really is has anyone got experiance of towing on the A470... outfit is 12meters overall and this route, although shorter looks like it covers some twisty mountain roads??? 17

Any advise would be welcome!

Thanks  17

Yes, I towed on a bit of the A470 last week, between Betws y Coed and Ffestiniog, but I'm a local and used to the hills. I didn't have to go lower than third gear uphill on my diesel Passat. Most of it is wide enough for two trucks to pass without slowing, although there's the ocassional narrow bit where two cars can pass, but if there's a bus or something coming towards you you may have to slow down.

Going via Caernarfon strikes me as an awfully long way around, plus the A55 is a busy, windy road prone to tailbacks IMHO.

Another alternative is to head towards Wrexham, and then A525 & A5104 to Corwen and A494 to Bala, and then A4212 to pick up the A470 in Trawsfynydd. This doesn't have as many hills or narrow bits as the A470 down from Llandudno.

Huw Warrington,

Thanks for the advice and suggestions, been looking on the map and the route you have suggested is only 2 miles longer then going all the way down the A470 so could be a plan.

Cheers again.  17
