Hi
We have a Honda CRV which had a tow bar when we bought it. It now needs replacing as the metal bits are rusting.

Where do I start? In the towsure catalogue there are pins, balls, coupling, drop plates, spacers!!!!!!!!

Do I need a particular one for the car model and if so how do I find out which one I need?

Do i also need to replace the electrics/wiring or just the tow bar (the wiring works fine - but don't know if it all comes together)

How much should I expect to pay for the tow bar and for fitting (so I know if I'm getting ripped off).

Where do I go to get it fitted?

Any advice greatly received.
Cheers

I cannot believe it needs replacing. Towbars always rust but they are made of thick enough steel to long outlive the life of the car. The brackets for the lighting sockets do rust however, and are very flimsy. These are easily replaceable without changing the whole towbar.

If it is surface rust you can clean it off and treat it with rust killer then paint it. They are pretty substantial things, I would consider getting a garage to have a look at it first.
If the ball hich is rusty , it may simply unbolt(depends on type).

I will investigate the depth of rust - superficially looks pretty bad - thanks for this
