Hi all, just tried to connect my euro socket from the car to an adaptor then to the standard n and s fittings on the van and some of the functions wont work.
Cant get right hand indicator or brake lights to work on back of van. Rear headlight and left indicator fine.
This is a new car(not towed with it before) and came fitted with detachable towbar and 13 pin euro socket and I wonder if it wasnt wired correctly. I checked the bulbs and they were fine etc.
It takes forever to get the car booked into BMW for repair etc, so would like to rule out the chance that it is the car; and fault perhaps lies with new adaptor lead.
I have a voltage tester but no idea how to use it to test the prongs of the socket etc.
What switch on the voltage meter do I set as the parameter etc? and do I touch the positive or negative lead from the tester onto the individual prongs of the euro socket?

Sooooo many questions, thank you for your patience.

I'd try 'spreading' the pins on the 7 pin 12N plug first, especially if it feels loose in the socket.

Forgive the question, but have you put the 13 pin plug full in? It goes in with the flat bit to the left, then push and twist clockwise until it comes to the top.

The connections are as shown here -




You should be able to see the voltage if you set the meter to the correct range (say 20V or 50V or what have you) and put the black probe to earth and the red one to the feed you want to check. If you are using a simple voltage tester rather than a meter, make sure it's an automotive one - a mains tester won't light up. The fridge supply won't work unless the car engine is running.

I would also check that the fridge and battery charging are connected, it is apparently very common for this not to be done on German cars.

My older audi allroad didn't have the fridge and charger wiring in the 13 pin socket.  Very frustrating as a whole new socket is required because to pins aren't present neither
