Hi I have a VW Touran TDI 1.9 105 BHP and i tow a bailey ranger GT60 540-6 a six berth caravan. the caravan weighs about 1200kg and it tows it fine the van doesnt move behind the car. i am really pleased with it. I would say though if you could get the 130BHP i would say this would give you a bit more umph
We are due to take delivery of a new Touran 1.9 tdi, I checked this out on various websites, I understand that it is 1500kg. We are wanting to get a caravan (just sold a folding camper), but we are looking at the lighter weight end ie: Max Payload of 1360kg. I think any heavier than that we will be struggling up the hills
HI there, We have a 2008 1.9TDI 105BHP Touran. We tow our Elddis Shamal XL 4 berth MTPLM 1200KG, and its tows like a dream ! I also believe its a very stable car, both solo and towing. I get 51 MPH solo and about 30/35 MPG towing, it fits my 2 Border Collies in the boot and also my daughter and her friends with ease !
We've got the 138Bhp Tdi version. We tow a Sterling Europa (1460kgs max) and it's proved a good towcar. Typical mpg 28-30 towing depending on weather, speed etc.
The only problem we've had is hill starts on wet roads when the car and van are loaded when the front wheels have slipped a bit, but we are talking about fairly steep hills.
The car is just outside warranty (we've purchased an extended warranty) a 07 plate which we've had since new. Its done nearly 40,000 so far and other ran routine servicing it has had the following done outside waranty.
- had several trips to the dealer with reversing sensor problems, mostly resolved by them changing the sensors.
- ABS unit failed and replaced (if you look on a VW forum there seem to have been a spate of these which, if it happens outside warranty is expensive)
- Air-con compressor replaced and system regassed.
Which seems a few more trips to the dealer than I would have expected.
Other than routine services all we've replaced are the two front tyres.
