Hi Guys...just bought a Knauss Starclass 470..single axle..and need a bit of advice/reassurance as to the tyre pressures I should be running on.

The van max gross weight is 1500kg with 195/70 R15c tyres..currently they're inflated to 55 psi ( set by the dealer) ...its just the handbook sez to inflate them to 65psi which seems a bit hard to me....

On the tyre wall it says ...load range D...900kg at 66 psi....Any advice would be much appreciated

I always stick to what the handbook suggests.

If in doubt contact the manufacturer

55psi is spot on what the dealer put in.
900 divided by 66 then x by 55 =750
half the weight of the van for 1 tyre.
sorry if you looked at my post before i edited it.
I did it wrong.

Hi gazza...wish I'd read your reply earlier...just spent I don't know how long blowing 'em up to 65 psi...makes the old knees creak a bit I can tell you....Ive got an electric pump but I can't get the car near enough...unfortunately....

Thank you all for your replies..Its good to know you're all out there..

Handbooks are not always correct as I recently found out. Mine quoted 10psi greater than the max stated on the tyre. (newish van, original tyres)

Goldcrest, don't you have a 12v socket in your van to plug your electric pump into?

Know what you mean about trusting the handbook statistics.thats part of the reason for this posting....but Ive blown the tyres up now..so they're going to have to stay 'til I've given it a run ...see how it goes....I can always let 'em back down to 55psi if the rides too hard....certainly can't face blowing 'em up again with a foot pump for a while....

I have a 12v lighter type socket in the van..but its too small a diameter...must be a continental size.......

There are two types. If you have a larger one, does it have a red plastic bit on the end as shown below. If so give it a pull and it will come off, lo and behold a smaller plug! If not you can get an adaptor at caravan accessory places:
