we used to tow a lighter caravan than yours with the 2 lt hdi picasso (90 HP) and to say the least i was glad to change it for a vectra. I would frequently have to change down to as low as second up some hills.
The picasso has a max tow of 1300 Kg. The 2005 model omega has a mtplm of 1260 kg - you will be towing at almost 97%. We struggled with 91%.

We tow with a 2.0 ltr diseal picaso dragging a bailey ranger 500/5 behind this car drinks the fuel with this weight behind it. Just been bristol to helston with a full tank and only managed 300 miles from a tank of fuel. When it comes to hills its down the gear box you must go many times I was in second gear to get over hills on the A30. The picaso is a good car but for the wieght we have to haul it needs to be changed as the engine is running dam hot even on the motorway.

Ive just come back from cornwall and have a 2.0 hdl pic. I'm from Cheshire and got there on half a tank, pulled my van no problem and ran at normal temp up and down all the hills, very rarely did i have to go to second gear. I tow a Abbey GT 214, 2 birth design weight of 1045 kgs. I think there a great tow car.

Picasos maybe be beter with lighter caravans or vans that are not family sized vans like 5 berth vans. I love the fuel eccomoney of the car and my red light is just about to light up after this weekend return journey from cronwall and having got around 400 miles from the tank. Which isnt too bad as I normally get 550 when not towing.
But it still needs to be changed as its not quite right for us know.

We have a 1.6 HDI Picasso 92HP and it tows beautifully. We recently took our 1000Kg van up to Derbyshire and it towed it no trouble up the hills of the High Peak area only having to go down to 3rd gear at 40mph on big hills. I used 5th gear most of the journey while driving at a constant 50 mph on cruise control and 55 on duals. Engine temp was normal all the time. MPG averaged 35mpg over about 350 miles (will normally do 72mpg without van!) Rear suspension is soft, but by loading car and van nicely to keep noseweight down it didn't 'bottom out'.

It was the first time away for us and I was really impressed with the outfit - pleasantly surprised!

Have a Picasso 1.6hdi 110BHP and it's in the garage now getting a new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted after 37,000 miles (ouch!).  Van is an Abbey 2 berth around 1280Kg so not heavy really.  Also had a Picasso 2.0 HDI 90BHP before - it's clutch went at 37,000miles too!  Picasso is a great family car, very economical and spacious - but it's not a great towcar above 1100kg really. Too many gear changes for my liking.  Looking at Hyundai Tucson 4wd when I get the Picasso back.
