I don't currently tow with the auto box but I will do when I change, I have heard nothing but good reports about the auto box. I have not had a problem with the manual but reverse on the manual is a little high geared so a few have suffered a smelly clutch hence the reason for the shift to auto. have a search on the link below, loads of Freelander 2 towing with auto boxes.

Hi Rexton just back from the south of france with freelander td4 /bailey majestic,

fully loaded towed like a dream no problems at all over 2,000 miles this trip.

I would recommend an auto box every time

I've had several 4x4s most with auto boxes and presently have an auto TD4 Freelander which is excellent on hill starts and reversing, (no more having to slip the clutch) of course normal driving with my Steering Topaz in tow is good too.

I would imagine an auto Freelander2 would be even better as it is heavier and a larger vehicle than its predecessor.
