Hi Andy
Not to sure about the specification of your van, but the Freelander should be OK for van weights up to around 1300kg and the vehicle has a nose weight on the ball hitch of 140kg, that’s a lot more than most SUVs and therefore can cope with most caravans, whose nose weights are usually around the 100kg mark.
I’ve had two diesel Freelanders, and although they make very good tow cars, would recommend you keep the vehicle well loaded as this I’ve found improves stability. Not forgetting of course the importance of loading the caravan correctly too, i.e. heavy items kept low and over the axel and adjusting the load to get the correct nose weight as per the caravan specifications.
Trust this helps
Paul
