Hi all.
I am thinking of joining the caravaning comunity (fed up of getting wet putting up tent etc)

I have a 2.0 TDI 140 bhp Touran 7 seater. The Kerb weight in the book is 1678kg.

I want a van with 2 bedrooms (either end) and 5 berth.

What weight of van can I tow? and any suggestions of good starter van?

first thing how long ago did you pass your driving test,if post 1997 you will have to look at the gross weights of tow vehicle and MTPLM of Caravan very carefully to stay legal,

Hi,

Someone will soon tell me if I am wrong, but if your stated kerb weight is correct, then you can legally tow 1678kg. The Caravan Club suggest that 85% of this weight would be the preferred option, depending on your towing experience.
Check with VW. Do they, as a lot of manufacturers do, slap a towing weight restriction on your particular model?

As far as which van, there are quite a few with beds at both ends. There is a website (vandata?) or something like that, that list most along with layout drawings.

Passed test in 1992 so all ok on that front

The Bailey Ranger 500/5 or 540/6 fit the bill & come in at 1268kg & 1306kg respectively.

The Touran, & especially in 140bhp guise, makes an excellent tow-car...bags of torque, short rear overhang etc. Our Swift Challenger (1500kgMTPLM) was being towed with a 100bhp Touran & they reckoned it was a great tow-car.
We needed the 5 berth, separate ends, layout & are well pleased with our Challenger.
1500kg towing limit on the Touran by the way.

Thanks takisawa, have seen all Bailey range as that is all we can get in Cornwall.
After something under £5000 really but am not sure if I can get something that the Mrs will like (if you know what I mean).
