I think Big Al needs his eyes testing or put too much mascara on that pig....I have no problem seeing that picture either and as a fellow Navara owner I easily belief that..

Sure just like the LR fans in this thread were saying, legally it is not allowed and a lot of it is to protect those who don't know how to drive (lets face it not many in the UK actually ever had any training to tow have they...)...

Anyway I've 'rescued' a few cars and even an Landcruiser Amazon with my Navara from a valley near where I live...I easily got them up the hill...Also seen a Navara tow a 7.5Tonne out of very very deep snow and that one was on 22" wheels just like mine ;-)

But hey no need to belief, but some people still know what to do and use the 4wd switches in the right settings manually...

Strange this thing with the pic being visible to some but not others ... I can't see it either - I assume it's to do with security settings on your own pc maybe ? But then I don't know much about computers....

However is it maybe that Landrover fans like me, or people who don't WISH to see certain things - like Navaras pulling 40 ton trucks - can't see them because they don't want to ? !!!

The variables - tyres, driver ability, the constantly changing co-efficient of friction - (apparently- that came from the OH !) etc etc etc etc.....that can affect how well a vehicle will get through snow or mud, & how much it can tow, are extremely diverse. I don't know much about cars - but I do know that !

Choosing a 4x4 is like choosing many other things I think. Nothing is perfect & what's `best' depends what you want it for - & how you use it. ANY smart woman will tell you that....

Hell I can see it too

- even with my Landrover Vision !! That is very level ground of course... I imagine trying to tow that truck uphill would have been a little bit, er - dangerous....

All I see is a small truck tied to a big truck, I don't see it moving it, I could tie my Sorento to a railway engine, but I don't think it would pull it.

But then I'm not into "mines bigger than yours" games

I don't think anyone is claiming that a Navarra towed a 40 tonne dead weight, are they? The truck presumably had the engine running and was trying to move forward but didn't have quite enough traction.

I can quite imagine that a Navarra (or any other 4x4 or even half a dozen big blokes) might well have been able to muster a couple of hundred kg of pull, even on snow and that it might have been just enough.

I imagine you're about right Andrew.

If I put my OH on wheels I could probably just about tow him along if he helped a wee bit (in horse power terms he's a Percheron & I'm a SectionA Wesh Mountain Pony) but I don't think I'd make it up a hill .... Ok I reckon my ticker might just pack up afterwards too !
