2005 CITROEN C5 2.2ltr HDi VTR 5 door Auto Hatchback
I bought one of these cars yesterday. The registration document says it is as I put above. I rang the AA to change my insurance to this so that the dealer can get the road tax and both the AA and the underwriters say that no Automatic version of this model exists and they cannot insure it. The AA said that they had even checked with "Thatcham" and could not find it. Any advice?
Thanks millermicm, I bought it from an independent dealer who I have used for the last 5 cars I have owned. He sells Protons and has confirmed that all the details are correct. He took this car in part exchange even though it is not his usual type of car. He has even spoken to the AA and read out what the Reg document states. I contacted Citroen web site and entered the Reg no. and the identification of the car came up straight away just as written at the top.
No, it's not an import, the Citroen web site came up with the "NEW" registration date of july 2005 and reg. number which is on the car. But yes I will ask a local broker tomorrow but my insurance on the old car has still got over 10 months to go and if I cancel and start with a new broker I have to pay a hefty cancellation charge, which doesn't happen if I stay with them and just change the details.
Its just the AA computer scrambling it's brain, the model does exist. Try an online quote from any other insurer & you will find you can get a quote for that model, print out the quotes & show the AA.
It is possible the word 'hatchback' is confusing them because the car is normally reffered to as a saloon.
Thanks everyone for all the advice, I have (YET AGAIN) been on the phone to AA and they have now passed the problem onto their "Special Details banch" (I think) and promise a solution as soon as possible. I hope it is quick as the car needs taxing on Monday and I pick it up on Tuesday morning. How I will get the cover note with the Postal strikes I don't know.
Just had a call from AA. Yes, the car IS (and was) on the database afterall and so they can now insure it. Cover note will be issued as soon as Postal strike allows. Thanks again to all for advice and suggestions.
Hooray! Can they fax anything to the dealer on this occasion I wonder? Might be worth checking with DVLA to see what is acceptable, I am sure I read somewhere recently that this was admissable.
HAd the same problem with my new Audi - insurers said it didn't exist as a model - had to e-mail them the web address so they could see it on-line and pass info to underwriters. Took 3-4 days to sort out.
